A Homily of our father Saint Abba Shenouda the Archimandrite, may his holy blessings be with us all. Amen.

There are two things I will tell you. All those for whom the heavens rejoiced because they repented while they were still on earth, will never have any passion or trouble in this place. Those for whom the heavens did not rejoice over because they did not repent while they were on earth will never have any joy or comfort in this place. Therefore till when are you going to remain to be lazy? I plead with you to lament over yourself as long as these lamentations will be accepted. If you have committed something that deserves lamenting, you have to lament it on your own and all the Saints will lament with you for your salvation. Blessed is he who laments over himself here on earth, for they will be rescued from the continuous gnashing of teeth and eternal weeping and will rejoice and enjoy a heavenly happiness.

Let us wake up, my beloved, before the door is closed and it is too late to repent, when we start pleading in front of the door, only to hear “do not know you”. All this and worse we will hear it if we keep on sinning.

Let us conclude the homily of our father Saint abba Shenouda the Archimandrite, who has enlightened our minds and the eyes of our hearts, in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, one God, Amen.

(The above homily comes from the Wednesday prophesies of Holy Week)

Bishop Daniel, as the first Bishop over St Shenouda Coptic Orthodox Monastery, Putty, NSW.

The Enthronement of Bishop Daniel took place during vesper prayers which started with the procession of Bishop Daniel, led by the deacons, priests and bishops, then the prayers of thanks giving, litanies, and doxologies, which were mixed with many chants, and Gospel reading in the Coptic, English and Arabic languages.

After the Gospel reading, the enthronement ritual prayers took place, where Bishop Daniel was taken by the Papal Delegates on his Throne while the deacons singing the hymns of acclamation saying “worthy, worthy, worthy is Abba Daniel the Bishop.” The accompanying Bishops then read the document of Investiture, which is a letter from and signed by His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, outlining his new responsibilities. Then Bishop Daniel was handed the golden Crozier (the copper serpent staff), which is a symbol of his Chief Priesthood and Pastorship.

A number of speeches then followed by some of the Papal Delegates, Church Representatives and Government Officials who were present. H.G. Bishop Daniel then gave his speech where he extended his warm welcome and gratitude to all who were present, especially those who made the long trip to the Monastery to be part of this joyous ceremony. H.G. then gave out a memorial gift to all who were attending to commemorate this historic occasion.

The vesper prayer was then concluded with the Absolution, Blessing and Dismissal.

For More details about the event please read our Special Edition of our newsletter Pimonakhos

View Photos of HG Ordination
